PESEL number for refugees

Every foreigner living in Poland may obtain their own PESEL number, which is useful for official matters, obtaining employment and education, etc. The PESEL number is granted automatically in the case of having a registered stay in Cracow for more than 30 days. If a foreigner does not have the possibility to officially register their stay in Cracow but is in need of a PESEL number, they can submit an application (application form can be found on this website) to the office. The application may also be submitted by post (by registered letter).

Children residing in the city of Cracow may also automatically receive a PESEL number at least 30 days after registering their stay. If registering is not possible, the application for PESEL number can be submitted by their parents or legal guardians. Obtaining a PESEL number is free of charge.
