Schools and day child care

Children and teenagers from Ukraine are guaranteed free access to education in Poland.

Free classes for children

The city of Kraków, Grupa TAURON and Arena Kraków S.A. together with the project operator, Fundacja Poland Business Run and a partner, Międzyszkolny Ośrodek Sportowy Kraków „Zachód” prepared a special space for day child care. Thanks to the initiative called “Dziecięca przystań,” [Eng. Child Haven] children can benefit from free classes.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are divided into three age groups:

• 0-3-year-olds

• 4-6-year-olds

• 7-10-year-olds.

The caretakers speak Ukrainian. The organizers offer sports activities and various types of games that are prepared specifically for each age group.

Classes are held at TAURON Arena Kraków at ul. Stanisława Lema 7 (see the map), on level B and in Mała Hala.

Interested persons are asked to sign up by calling on (+48) 146 146 146 or to sign up in person at the main reception.

It is also possible to apply using the online form.

More information on the Tauron Arena website.

Schools

In order to enroll a child in school, parents should visit the school of their choice, where they will be interviewed. Basing on the interview, it will be determined what the child's educational needs are and what class they should attend.

Preparatory classes

Students who do not speak Polish may join schools offering preparatory classes. The link below presents the map of Kraków schools. Schools offering preparatory classes are marked in green, and those applying to open such classes are marked in red.

There is also a map of schools offering services of so-called multicultural assistants. These are special teaching assistants who can help Ukrainian students settle in Polish schools.

Day child care

To enroll a child in a kindergarten or nursery, parents should contact headmasters of the chosen institutions and ask about the possibility of enrollment. At this point, there are no preparatory classes in kindergartens, so children are asked to join the already existing groups.

Free places in kindergartens for Ukrainian children

The cooperation between the City of Cracow and UNICEF has resulted in more than 200 additional free places for pre-school activities for children from Ukraine.

Kindergartens offer additional places. The activities are organised by the Internationaler Bund Polska Foundation of Cracow (known, for example, for the “Szafa Dobra” initiative). A map of the kindergartens offering places is available on the Foundation's website.

To enrol your child for a subsidised place in kindergarten you need to contact the centre of your choice directly and take part in the recruitment process. A list of kindergartens with contact details and information on the number of available places can be found in the online form.
